In Their Own Words
(Mail To Our Web Site) |
- the world doens't hate graffiti... the property owners that have
graffiti on their property hate graffiti. graffiti is art and no one
will ever be able to stop graffiti artists from expressing themselves
and tagging up walls or trains or buildings. you keep on painting over
it, but we'll always be there tagging up over it again. dont you
realize that this is an equalibrium. your never going to cover all the
graffiti, you are covering it up as fast as we're putting it back.
maybe if towns and cities gave permission for artists to graffiti
their art on certain walls, there would be less illegal graffiti and
more possitive graffiti.
graffiti is an amazing thing that represents self image, personality,
reflection, and displays the principals of art such as value, line,
image, texture. graffiti is art, not vandalizm, and i think its funny
that your trying to stop it.
-signed,
you can cover my tags all you want, but i'm just going to graff right
over it. ;-) (Sep 23, 2002)
- You guys/gals have a cute little board going here, but I've
noticed a lot of quite humorous posts. I know and appreciate a bit
about graffiti culture and what amuses me is that many of you anti-graff
people seem to think that by removing a piece of graffiti that you've
somehow "won."
you should probably start realizing that writers don't expect
their piece to stay up for very long, especially in busy places. as
far as going out at night, it's to avoid getting caught, not out of
shame. avoiding detection and getting tags washed away two days after
making them is all part of the game. so next time you wash away a tag,
don't think that the writer is sitting at home crying that it's gone.
he knows it's gone, expects it to be gone, and is probably already
working on a new one. graffiti is, by nature, illegal. anti-graffiti
efforts are part of what graffiti is about. they'll keep writing,
you'll keep fighting. you don't have to respect it, just realize that
writers expect resistance to what they do.
- i love to paint on stuff i paint on every thing from schools to
signs to cars to highways to bridges to mabey even your house randy. i
skratch tags in glass use etchbath on windos i run from the police i
explode bombs and smoke crack and shootup herion im your every day
gangsta ma fuka bangin gangs and cappin foos g iges im your regular
every day scum of the planit VANDAL
- dont u think that Murder, Drug dealers, Rape, Robbery, Starvation
in 3rd world countries, People living in poverty in so called "civalised"
countries are just a tad more important than a bit of harmless art on
the walls? i cant think of one country that has a perfect education
system no poverty and no serious crime. the money wasted by the
government towards getting rid of graffiti could be put to far better
causes.
you might think graffiti is ugly and a sign that society is falling to
pieces but im sure u will find that the people with the guns and the
drugs and the capitalist criminals are the ones doing the real harm to
todays society
so why dont you all run along and find something better to spend your
time on rather than wasting it on trying to stop the unstoppable?
- I think you are all pathetic losers with no life. Instead of
trying to prevent the inevitable, educate your kids, stop your slut
daughter from selling herself, get your sex addicted son off of drugs,
and get your rapist husband off the streets. Graffiti is here forever
you 69 year old losers.
- GIVE UP!! theres always gonna be people who do this...the ONLY
WAY TO ERADTICE GRAFFITI IS TO CUT THE HANDS OFF EVERYONE!! thats
prolly the only way....seriously....haha good luck cutting my hands
off.... officer campbell be a real cop and go catch some
"thug gangsters" selling crack to 8 year olds or some
rapists or something...i love the way you have the public thinking
that all taggers are gangbaing uzi toting fools that jack peoples
money and run around hurting people...this site is such
bullshit....stop misinforming the public
- graffiti will continue to scream out it's existence even after
Bush's Nuclear Holocaust.....you know most of you conservative mutha****ers
didn't care about all this graffiti until it came into your pretty,
rich little neighborhoods..I bet you think we should keep graffiti in
the ghettoes of the world...far from your little upper class eyes
right...well F**K you....hip hop has helped spread our art...but
there's writers out there who are not into hip hop...are you guys
trying to blame hip hop for getting your kids into graffiti?...why
don't you interact with your kids a little more..instead of
interacting with these f**ken computers all day long trying to
maintain this website......why aren't you dedicating a website about
how the Heritage Foundation is controlling the US government...how
Bush has a plan for a Nuclear Holocaust...the US government is ruled
by thugs...the only difference between us writers and those in
government is that we let the public see what is going on.....now go
and do some research about the Heritage Foundation..instead of bullsh**ting
with this site...Begin.MTA.....now why don't you spend some time with
your kids instead of trying to be the one who's gonna stop
graffiti........
- well mr randy campbell..first of all f*** YOU....and second, you
F***ing PIG....graffiti is not dying...graffiti will be here even
after you or I seize to exist.....all you are doing is making your
heart problems more complicated..and making your life bitter...do you
know why I post my messages....to laugh at you and the rest of the
anti-graffiti crusaders...heheh.. it is called entertainment....and
yes I am a vandal..and there will be many more vandals after me...has
graffiti really gone down in your community?...pretty little rich
upper class honkey neighborhood...graffiti will never die...but YOU on
the other hand will die the death you deserve....as so shall I...but
until that day comes..we are both stuck with each other...I know the
differnce between good and bad.....and you sir are neither...I slap
your face and challenge you to a duel...sincerely Begin MTA..now I
gotta go I gotta go do some graffiti next to the police station and
actually get paid for it....and get free paint..and guess what it's
all thanks to city of los angeles and the average taxpayer....thank
you mr randy campbell for this forum where we us "taggers"heheh
can express our views...PIG!!!
-
- the day graffiti becomes legal or accepted is the day i quit
forever.
- 'ello all. this is my first post on this message board and it
appears that all of you (even some graffiti writers, which is sad)
don't understand that graffiti is art. it is not only art, but one of
the rawest forms of art. our canvas is EVERYTHING, as vast as we want
it to be, where we want it to be, and when we want it there. graf
writers do not sit in their perfect little studio with their perfect
lighting with a chair and eisel. we are on the street, under a bridge,
in a subway tunnel, on a rooftop, and anywhere else our mind can
imagine. we do not have perfect lighting, we might have the lighting
of a flash light. we are looked at as criminals. WE ARE ARTISTS. we
give the city character. well, if you got this far, then thank you for
reading my opinion. i know it will go unappreciated, but i would still
like to get responses, positive or negative. if you got this far, i
would love you to read this piece written by the vapors:
THE HAVES WILL NEVER SUBDUE THE PUBLIC VOICE
they can write their names out of money on their glassy
building walls. they can loom over us any damn day they wish and sing
little songs that remind us of them everywhere we go. they can do all
these things, but the voice of the individual is just footsteps away.
these footseps will take you as far as your heart, into more
desolate and dangerous places than you ever thought you'd step, just
to write your name and let the gods know you cared. the haves will
send armed men after you and they will strike and you must be
prepared. but the numbers are on our side. from the highest rooftops
the the dank tunnel passegeways, we will be heard. and we will scream
as loud as we can, because we want you to remember this.
like reading poetry once written in another language,
graffiti losses something in its translation when it tries to win the
affection of the haves. it is not to be taken more lightly than
weaponry, because that is what it is. GRAFFITI IS OUR WAR. GRAFFITI IS
NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THERE. that is why it works. -the vapors
- graffiti is a american pastime and a subculture that will never
die.
you people that are anti-graffiti are just pouring gasoline
on the fire,
dont get me wrong i do applaud you people painting over graffiti to
give us a clean space to write on.
graffiti is in a art class of its own
what would san francisco , los angeles, n.y.c or any other big city be
without graffiti?
if those cities had clean walls and no sign of graffiti dont you think
that would make those cities a bit ... how can i say this.. BORING
graffiti adds alot of charecter and rythym to the surfaces that it is
on.
by now you probably think im a cocky self centered graffiti
vandal that has nothing better to do than to add a layer of spray
paint or ink on a surface,
but i dont mind at all.
it seems alot of you think alot of graffiti writers have
problems in there life or that they are angry people that are violent
and are troubled teenagers or 'misguided artists' -as i read in some
stupid article on this website.
or our aim is to destroy public or personal property (by the way i
dont support graffiti on personal property) our aim is simply to
"get up"
graffiti means alot to some people, so much that we're going
to great lengths (risking arrest, prison time, injury, or even death)
to do it, you think thats pointless and stupid right? well if you love
the graffiti lifestyle as much as some graffiti writers do you'll do
anything for it.
and as a closing statement,
you people are always complaining about the money spent on cleaning
graffiti up (millions of dollars right)
have you ever though about what else that money could have been spent
on?
helping people that cant afford hospital bills,
food for homeless shelters, or anything else that the city really
needs.
is graffiti hurting anyone? yes its an eyesore to some but is
it really enough to spend millions of tax dollars cleaning up? i think
not, if you had a poll to see what citizens would do with there tax
dollars i bet cleaning graffiti would be last on the list.
- ..since when does grafitti/writing/bombing/tagging/getting up
have to be justified?...most of the pro-graf post sound like
spoiled-brats begging for acceptance...i have been in the game for 18
years and was active for 12...not once did i believe that what i was
doing was right...when i did my thing i was worried about keeping my
lines clean and that i didn't get jacked by cops...that is part of the
game and keeps it pure...areosol art...yes it is art but it is also
illegal...as it should be...legal walls and murals are great...but
those of you who choose to stay underground and want to do your thing
in the tradition of the giants in whose footprints you stand...realize
that our art will never be legitimate in the eyes 95% of the
population.
- as a 25 year old father i still get the urge to bomb...and can't
help but look at rooftops and underpasses and figure out ways to get
up there...i guess we are just wired that way...but i think about that
check i need every 2 weeks to feed my family and i supress the
feeling...life sucksin someways...but that is also part of the game,
maturity...lots of graff artist have developed into full fledged
businessmen and women...look at PNB clothing, DOZE TC5, HAZE, CONART,
and many others that have moved into web/graphic design, fine art,
clothing and tatto art...as well as others like me that just became
regular guys with 9-5's...some are more commited to the streets and go
to any lenghts to stay up...like ***** from the 640MOB (i can't snitch
on ya' tag baby boy!) who has been to the juvenile to the county and
eventually to san quentin...for grafitti!...and i just saw a new *****
hit up yesterday!!!...life is all about choices...but when these kids
posting now are grown and gone...kids who are 2 now will be here to
take ther place.
- graffit is art and you cant stop it.. been bombin the streets of
dallas for the last 13 years and you fukas havint got me yet pretty
fukin sad...... to the men in blue the kids are to illusive for
you.... pigs!!!the kids can not be stoped!! to the men in blue have
fun trying to catch us pigs..... love the kids
- The issue of vandalism is very easily changed by the subject.
Painting on someones car has an immediate and strong negative effect
on someone. Painting on a train or a wall under a bridge has little or
no effect on anyone. Im not saying that some graffiti is good and some
is bad, im just saying that some indicates gang territories, and some
doesn't. if people know that their neighborhood is not being claimed
as gang territory it might make them feel better. i'd love to argue
more but i am going to go paint some freights now.
-yablo
- its funny how you think you can stop graffiti....ive been
painting for 6 years...i havent ever been caught....ive done 498
pieces...hahaha....you trying to stop it makes the game more
fun....you dont kno y i paint...so just shut up and be glad im not
dealing drugs like our corrupted us government....all the U.S.
government is worse than us...so settle down and experience graffiti
for what it is...ART!!!!!
-
I just wanted to say a big "***K YOU" in your general direction. Your site
is a worthless piece of shit, a conglomeration of crap, if you will. You
know NOTHING about art and what graffiti represents. Granted, not all
graffiti looks good or appeals to everyone, but you cannot deny the fact that
it is still an art form, and that most good graffiti artists are very
passionate about their work and risk getting caught in the middle of the
night in the cold, just to get their name up and display their skills.
You're looking at it from a very narrow-minded point of view, and you suck
because of it.

connected with all crime. there is also a big difference between real
graffiti and what the public percieve it to be.

- I admire your dedication but really sir, resistance is futile. People have
been graphically depicting the story of their lives upon walls for thousands
of years and will go on doing so until humanity ceases to exist. Everybody
does it, Coca-Cola has been taggin' up my city for years - detracting from
public spaces. What, they have money so they can mess with the aesthetics of
my city but the people who are the city are not allowed to contribute? Your
little anti-graf site would be quite a laugh if it wasn't so tragic. The
time you waste with this web site could be better spent cleaning up your
neighborhood but you are a wanker . Too fat from too many burritos to get
out from behind the computer.. You are aren't you.. FAT WHITE
MIDDLE-CL*ass GOD FEARIN' AMERICAN..I PITY YOU
-
please stop this, you are just making it worse
for you and others. graffiti will not harm anyone, and you will keep
on convincing yourself that you can actually solve the "problem".i'm
sorry, this will not happen. you are useless and ignorant.
-
I don't mind graffiti. People who do this are
artists. Media is constantly bombarding the publics attention also, so
why not complain about that too. I think anti graffiti is hypocrasy
because everyone does graffiti, except in different ways. You people
should most definitely get a life....I can't believe you'd take the
time to actually make a site against the world's largest youth art
organization....Get a life you bloody wankaz!...Bliza1er
-
HEY! if you wanna see REAL taggin', come to
bordesley green, Birmingham. I think graffitti is good because there
is nothing else to do in brum and to some of the hardcore taggers in
brum, graffitti is their lives. It keeps kids amused
-
**** you! If anything people of the world
would be with all the hard working artists of this world. We'd out
number all the antigraffitiests. Just because you can't tag, doesn't
show to waste your time putting up a ****ing anti graffiti site. Screw
you
-
pic*asso once said "every act of
distruction is an act of creation"
-
**** you lame *ss loosers you will never ever
win against us
-
I must disagree with claims that graffiti is
not art. Art is what you make it to be, it is wrong to mark on private
property and down right insensitive. But as far as the
"property" of the city which neglects its youth, by all
means BOMBS AWAY!!
-
YOU are winning? That's almost as stupid as
saying prohibition worked. Making something illegal doesn't mean
people will stop doing it. You should've learned from your
mistakes, silly mistaken people Try to understand graffiti before
trying to kill it
-
Ever see something like "JAck+Mandy"
surrounded by a heart? Thats graff too, but you ppl dont complain
about that. If someone did a huge one of those, would it be ok then?
-
noone believes in you or what you do, or
simply they don't care. putting aside the morality problem (you have
no right to say graffiti is morally incorrect), the fact is that
neither you nor your pathetic efforts will change anything. believe
me.
- just like i don't talk badly about the inefficiency
of law (i know nothing about it), you should stop making fools of
yourselves talking about stuff you don't know. you are ignorant and
prejudiced an noone believes in you, not even yourselves.

- i
was outraged when i read the statements you make on your page, why
isn't graffiti an art?k because it's illegal??!! **ck the law.
every law is fascist because someone punish me if i don't do
what they say. a boring grey wall looks much better
with colour on it and the walls not broken, it's merely
changed! i can only see it positive that youth express artistic
talents instead of smoking crack. an advertisement poster is
ugly why can they change a wall? because they pay
for it? the law is only here to oppress you and the violence
machine of the so called "free" state is growing ever
more. so **ck you **ck the police and **ck authorities life is
too short to go around being a bitch and even though god
is waiting he's not letting everyone in ,fascist!
respond if you think i'm wrong.
- ok.
i really don't wanna offend you. no. wrong. i want to. because the
simplicity of the words i read on
your homepages really OFFEND ME. but i think it's not worth
writing down as many bad words as i could. i don't know how i found
your site and it really doesn't matter. but i checked it out and i
must say the design n all
that is one of the worst i ever seen. but again, that doesn't matter.
i just said it because i read titles like 'creating killer websites'
or something. all the commercialized banner crap, the webrings n stuff
are REALLY killing me. ok. i read some things about you, i visited
your girls pages (love 'em. thats webdesign). and i must say after
reading things about you i more and more got the feeling that i hate
your life. full of 'averageness' (sorry for my bad english... i'm
german) i don't wanna discuss with you. because
you don't know ANYTHING. i can't understand how people can be
as intolerant as you and all the people
behind you, holding up this propaganda-site-network. but there
are some things i HAVE TO say. first thing is, you and your sick
friends will NEVER. i repeat, NEVER stop us. why? easy! cause youre
lame. (no real offense - perhaps it's not true) you sit in front of
your pc, alone with your bits'n'bytes and the few
things you believe in. what do you believe in? god? america?
democracy? man? what the **ck?? why
can't you try to see what we see. we're young. some of us want fun.
just searching for the next dose of adrenaline. but some, and i know
many of them, believe in the possibility to change society with
their/our art. we don't use violence. we do not kill people. we do not
offend. BUT we DO think. we DO learn. we're not stupid sick kids
trying to destroy. surely there ARE kids that just search for a 'cheap
thrill' but not all of us think and act this way... i can't
support people who just tag around in their
neighbourhood without feeling the spirit of freedom deep in
their hearts. but i understand them. who is giving me a future? who
has my back? **ck it! most of the young people DON'T HAVE A FUTURE.
what do you want them to do? selling drugs to your (surely well
educated) children? killing people? or isn't it better to help them or
at least leaving them alone and leave them their try to get rid of
their agressions by doing agressive ART?! why don't you try to build
up a page which shows both sides? but the only thing you GIVE is a
network of very similair sites. all of them got a single purpose:
propaganda. it's crazy. i can't
believe it. on the home-page of nograffiti.com there is this question:
"Are you Pro or Anti Graffiti-VANDALISM?" why don't you (or
whoever did this crappy page) ask "Are you Pro or Anti
Graffiti?" Why
Vandalism? WHY? Thats's propaganda in it's purest form. i don't know
whether you get the point... i can't
say what you know and how much you really believe in what they say, in
what you say...?! but it wouldn't be wrong to reply to this mail.
bye! trx-1 or matr'x. living my art for three years now. btw.
this mail includes the "freedom of speech" and "freedom
of thought" viruses. these viruses COULD
destroy your system. know
what we (the vandalists) say when greeting each other? PEACE!
- I
am tired so I will be brief. My name is Nathan Platt from Portland,
Maine in school at the University of
Richmond. I have found your site to be very disturbing and
oppressive, being a painter myself, and I will tell you why. Often
spraypainting is the only resource that kids have to expel their
innate creative urge to represent
thought visually; all that aside graffiti is the most underappreciated
art in existence. GO to www.artcrime.com
and I hope you get the idea. To stop such that you are is oppressive
and narrow and I hope
that that you will look past the hollowness of societal appearance
into the talent and beauty of the
very thing you are so avidly against. Thank you for getting
this far if you did.

BOMB MORE AND TAG EVEN MORE. SO YOUR LITTLE WEBSITE JUST MAKES ME HAVE
THE FIRE FROM WITHIN TO GO OUT AND BOMB MORE. AND IF YOUR STUPID
LITTLE *ass WOULD LOOK AT ART CRIME YOU WOULD SEE THAT MOST OF THE
GRAFFITI ON THAT WEBSITE IS LEGAL AND PERMITTED. SO **ck OFF AND STOP
PICKING ON THEM. YOU ARE JUST PISSED OFF BECAUSE ALL THROUGH YOUR
SMALL LIFE NO ONE LIKES YOU AND NOBODY WILL EVER LIKE A PIECE OF SHIT
LIKE YOU.
- You
anti-graffiti vandalists should stop whining about things as petty as
graffiti. Worry about real things you babies! It's people like you who
bring the human species one step closer every day to destruction.
- All
of you people complaining about graffiti are just a bunch of
hillbillies or descendants of hillbillies who have less brains than
insects.(OOh, and insects don't even have brains, they just have a
network of nerves, HaHaHaHa!)
- THIS
IS REAL ART WEATHER U LIKE IT OR NOT U CANT STOP US
GRAFFITI WILL NEVER DIE U SAY ITS DESTRUCTIVE BUT IT IS
POSSITIVE WE COULD BE OUT SELLING DRUGS OR ROBBING YOUR
GRANDMA BUT ME AND MY FRIENDS CHOOSE TO DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR MY HOOD
- graffiti
is a form of art that is not understood in the older generation of
people. i do not agree with vandalism at all. there are more actions
that need to take place to stop vandalism... we need to put up more
legal graffiti walls
- U
CALL US CAWARDS BUT IF U STEP TO WHILE IM EXPRESSING MY SELF I WILL STAY, KICK YOUR *ass AND THEN FINISH MY xxxx
AND GO ON LIKE NOTHING HAPPEND
- graffiti
is a more difficult art form than any thing you sukaz could pump
out........as well as contributing to degentrafication...the idea of
lowering property values so that peoples of a lower cl*ass can live in
nicer areas.....you are capitalist
- It's
all about outlet. If you do not allow or give these people an outlet
for thier artistic endeavors, they will find an outlet. Offer them an
area to create, and they will take that route. stomp on them, and you
build defiance and unrest.
- graffiti
is a form of art, not a crime. It's only a crime when people like you
deny the right for artists to express their opinions.
- To
vote for or against graffiti is a bit like voting for and against a
religion. Graffiti is a culture and a way of life which governments
have tried to suppress for generations because it does not conform to
the expected way of life within society.
- Please
use common sense and consideration when applying stickers or other
propaganda materials. Giant
is designed to provoke thought about the mechanics of the system we
live in...not to destroy it. Everyone
has to live here. Plus
there are extreme individuals who wish to label all street artist as
vandals and push for harsher and harsher penalties and prosecution.
These people are very organized and lobby for public support.
To counteract their attempts to vilify street artist, the
street artist community needs to befriend local arts councils, graphic
arts organizations, and anyone and everyone with political power who
could be sympathetic to artists who have no sanctioned public venue to
express themselves. The
cities build tennis courts, basketball courts, football fields, even
skate parks at millions of dollars cost to the taxpayer.
Where are the public mural walls?
It's all about control of the public space.
If the opponents of street art are the only ones who speak out
then they will be the only ones who are listened to.
We need to fight fire with fire and express ourselves
intelligently. If we
don't come across as a bunch of vandals we may find that the silent
majority is actually supportive of public artistic expression.
Check out the following letter to see where they area coming
from. Graffiti is an art it gives our youth something more to do they
are using their minds and abilities instead of wasting their brains on
drugs you can't produce if your brain is reduced, let our youth expand
we are growing our intelligence is expanding
- Graffiti
is a way of life, it is a job, it needs to be done, graff is art, art
is work, work creates, creation grows, cities are built the art is
produced, graff is the design the building is the tablet the city is
the audience, Graffiti lives!

- Graffiti
is one of the most expressive and creative forms of art the world has
ever seen. The destruction of your communities comes not from the
artists who work to enhance it, but from the big businesses that have
turned you all into confomists. SC16
- Graffiti
is art, self-expression hurts no one; VANDALISM: as beautiful as a
rock in a cops face
- Graffiti
is a art, and it should not be destroyed by the likes of you... People
who are against graffiti is an oppressor, trying to stop people from
doing art... But don’t worry... you’ll grow out of it. People are
always afraid of new things... Peace
- Graffiti
is art: soon there'll be nothing you whiney *ass old farts can do about
it. Stop the repression of free thought.
- I’m
most likely smarter than you, and would be happy to prove it
anytime...you can't stop it, because the more you try, the more it
will rise above...my kids will be brought up to love graffiti art.
peace.
- Put
your energy in something useful, like fighting REAL crime
(politicians). I can't afford a press so I use a wall!
- OK
goodie-do-gooders it's against the law. Not MY law, some rich
religious *asshole's law
- You
don't even know what Graffiti is about and that Graffiti has a very
strong cultural background and that Graffiti isn't about vandalism or
destroying things but that it is an art form for many people to
express themselves.
- graffiti
is art, thus why try and eliminate it? it is hypricital to destroy one
form of art while promoting another. if one wants to get rid of
graffiti then they should also destroy pic*assos, miros etc
- Graffiti
is merely a colorful form of self expression, it hurts no one and nine
times out of ten is truly beautiful.
- graffiti
is not what i consider vandalism. vandalism is breaking windows and
smashing stuff. im a im not into that stuff, im a good vandal. when i
see my tags and graf it makes me proud to see it because thats the way
i express myself.it is art.
- there are obvious cultural and
social problems that lead to and are reinforced
by expression such as graffiti. However, these pale in
comparision to the a boring and lifless world where no body
ever dared to express themselves.

First off, I want to give you credit for putting together a
pretty extensive website. If I were an opponent of graffiti or
any kind of vandalism for that matter, which I am not, I would
find a lot of useful information here.
But on the flip side, a war on graffiti will accomplish just
about as much as the war on drugs did. TWIST THR in San
Francisco put it best when he said that the current state of
graffiti abatement in America is similar to putting a band-aid
on a deep gash that requires stitches. I find it hillarious that
lawmakers and public citizens actually believe stricter
penalties and increased enforcement will stop a child, young
adult or adult from defacing property.
I look at myself for example. I have a degree in journalism from
a nationally accredited four-year university, have a great job
with great benefits and great pay, my own place and a strong
family background devoid of infidelity, substance and physical
abuse and lack of affection etc.
But I gotta tell you, if i have a little bit of liquor in me,
there is nothing on this planet that will stop me from grabbing
a rock from the streets and scribing my name on AT LEAST 50-75
windows. I show no bias in regards to my vandalism, small
businesses, homes, churches, large corporations whatever.
Look, I understand your disdain for graff and I am pretty sure
if we didn't cost cities and towns so much god damn money you
would appreciate it from a legal standpoint. I also understand
that adding stats and figures to the site is simply a feeble
attempt to convince your allies and foes that graff is on the
decline and the balance of power in the game is shifting.
Contrary to popular belief, Graff writers or Vandals are not
intellectually inferior. Spending a lot of time by yourself in
the middle of the night kicks the brain into high gear and
leaves a ton of room for mind expansion. If a writer is
accustomed to bombing a certain area and sees it keeps getting
buffed, he or she will just find another place to paint. Not
that it takes smarts to figure that one out. It's actually
pretty instinctive. But what a writer will do is devise a proper
strategy to combat the evil forces surrounding him.
In the end however, it becomes a power struggle between rich
neigborhoods which can afford to constantly buff graff out and
the poor inner-city neigborhoods who have more important things
to worry about in life than some kid painting his name on a wall
in their area.
So believe what you want, for every graff writer who gets
busted, another 100 sprout up to rally around him. Same goes for
clean walls. For every one that gets buffed, another one gets
hit. Take Boston for example. According to court and police
records, which of course are made available to the public,
states that only a little over 30 writers have been "busted" for
destruction or defacing property ie “tagging”
Not a bad number, but only three of those writers have spent
more than a day in jail and fined over 250 bucks. But that’s not
the best part. The best part is that there are currently over
250 different tags in or around the city of Boston, not counting
the outside suburbs. You do the math. So who’s winning?
I am only 25 years old and I am in tremendous shape because I
don't allow the outside world to bring me down to its inferior
level. In other words, you will be dead and buried years after
it's my turn to go, and for some reason I have a feeling that
like myself, destruction of public and private property via
Spray Paint will be alive and kicking when you are rotting away
in a grave six feet under.
