GLENDALE — Vandals spray-painted graffiti along a 100-foot brick wall belonging to two businesses on the 1100 block of South Adams Street.

The wall, which is shared by Crysti Cleaners and the Adams Kabob House restaurant, was marked between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday, Crysti Cleaners owner Carol Cianfrini said

Employees discovered the graffiti early Thursday, Cianfrini said.

“How can this happen to our area?” she said.

Adams Kabob House owner Gayk Tadevosyan said the restaurant has been open for about year and had yet to be vandalized.

“They missed up the whole building,” Tadevosyan said.

For most of the day, two of the dry-cleaners’ employees worked to remove the graffiti, Cianfrini said.

He estimated that the total cost to rid the wall of the spray paint would be about $1,500, which includes paying employees and purchasing equipment.

The city requires that property owners immediately remove graffiti from their buildings or they will be fined. City crews are available to remove graffiti for a fee.

Vandals spray-painted graffiti two years ago on the front door of the dry cleaner, Cianfrini said.

“Evidently, there has been a rash of this stuff,” she said. “It’s gotten really bad.”

Graffiti in the city is down by one incident so far this year compared to 2007, Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

There were 20 graffiti incidents in the city in July and 23 in June, according to police crime statistics.

In June, there were 80 reported vandalism incidents, but it is unknown how many were graffiti related, according to police statistics.

The police recorded 592 incidents of vandalism during the first six months of this year, according to June crime statistics.

There were 604 vandalism offenses reported during the first six months of 2007.
