Manukau City Council wants to ban the sale of broad tip
marker pens to under-18-year-olds as part of an anti-graffiti campaign.
Mayor Sir Barry Curtis says the council is removing hundreds of pieces of
"tagging" week, and the problem costs ratepayers more than $1 million
a year.
The council also wants the power to ban the sale of spray paint to under-18s and
make it illegal for youngsters to possess them in public places.
Under the proposal, retailers who sell pens or paint to teenagers would face
penalties.
