New Rochelle launches program aimed at rapid clean up of graffiti
New Rochelle – The City of New Rochelle is the latest in the region to ratchet
up their anti-graffiti effort.
Recently the cities of Kingston and Newburgh announced programs to rid their
communities of graffiti rapidly.
Now, New Rochelle is doing the same thing with a decision to remove all graffiti
from public property within 48 hours and mandating that owners of private
property remove graffiti within two business days of notification by the city.
Mayor Noam Bramson said they want a clean city. “The message is a very simple
and clear one – don’t even think about defacing property in New Rochelle because
we will erase it quickly and without any exceptions,” he said. “The benefits are
obvious – it’s a community that is cleaner and more attractive, neighborhoods
that are more livable and commercial areas that are more inviting to shoppers.”
The city is hiring two part-time laborers to paint over graffiti defacing public
places. Locations of graffiti may be reported to the City Manager’s office at
914-654-2140.
