GARDEN GROVE – Police are looking for four people who they believe took part in
a possibly gang-related shooting that left a 16-year-old boy injured Sunday
night.
The victim was shot once in the lower abdomen after a confrontation resulting
from a graffiti incident, police said.
About 6:30 p.m., police responded to the 10200 block of Stanford Avenue after
reports of a shooting and found the teen.
Along with other juveniles, he was marking graffiti on an area of an apartment
complex.
"Tagging is on the rise citywide over the last year," Garden Grove police Lt.
Travis Whitman said.
The group was confronted by another group, which led to an assault, police said.
A short time later, the second group returned and confronted the graffiti
painters, and fired one round from a handgun, striking the victim.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition,
police said.
Two arrests have been made during the investigation but are not related to the
shooting or vandalism incident, Whitman said.
A 20-year-old man was arrested for giving false information to a police officer
and a 16-year-old boy was arrested for obstructing a police officer – both are
misdemeanor charges. It's unclear if they are part of the tagging crew, Whitman
said.
The incident is under investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Garden Grove Police Department at
714-741-5704.
