Youths charged in graffiti spree

ROCKLAND (May 19, 2004): Five local youths, four boys and a girl, are facing charges for a graffiti spree in Rockland Plaza and causing an estimated $10,000 damage.The youths, boys ages 12, 13, 15 and 16, and a 15-year-old girl, are charged with aggravated criminal mischief. Rockland police said the group has been steadily painting the back of the plaza for several weeks.

An investigation by Officer William Smith led to the charges against the youths, Deputy Police Chief Wally Tower said.

Tower said painting over the graffiti, which is extensive along the back of both Hannaford Bros. supermarket and J.C. Penney, is estimated to cost $10,000.
