International Graffiti-Busting Non-Profit Formed
The NoGraf Network, Inc., an international, web-based federation of
anti-graffiti professionals, announced the formation of their non-profit entity
today. With members on five continents and in 18 countries, the geographic
diversity of this Internet-based network underlines the global problem of
graffiti vandalism. "The vandals have been using the Internet for over six
years to promote their crimes; we are effectively harnessing the same tool to
educate and prevent the vandalism," said Randy Campbell, NoGraf Executive
Director. Randy is a law enforcement officer in the state of California who
started his Department's Graffiti Task Force in 1993.
When originally founded in June 1997, NoGraf was a loose network of
approximately 20 anti-graffiti professionals, linking individuals from the
fields of law enforcement, graffiti abatement, vendors, educators, and volunteer
groups. The Network's explosive growth in the past three years reflects the
magnitude of the graffiti vandalism problem and the need for dialogue between
professionals combating this contemporary urban problem.
The NoGraf Network represents a merger, combining into one organization the
resources of the National Graffiti Information Network (NGIN), The Multi-Agency
Graffiti Intervention Committee (MAGIC), and the Tagger & Graffiti Network
Enforcement Team (TAGNET). NoGraf is a member of the National Crime Prevention
Coalition. It's Executive Committee, all volunteers, consists of Randy Campbell,
Lake Forest, California, Executive Director, and three Deputy Directors: Jay
Beswick, Hurricane, Utah, Ernest Garrett, San Diego, California, and Jim Powers,
Rockford, Illinois.
