Daniel Pena, 18, pleaded no contest Thursday to one count of vandalism in Los Angeles Superior Court, according to Delgadillo's office.
Judge Charlaine Olmedo sentenced Pena to 24 months probation and ordered him to complete high school or pass the General Education Development test within that period, according to Delgadillo's office.
"A quality education is an essential tool to break the destructive cycle of gangs, violence and random graffiti vandalism," Delgadillo said.
"Through creative sentencing, we are working to make a positive difference in the lives of young people and move them away from activities that can lead to more serious crimes."
Pena's driver's license was suspended for a year and he was ordered to pay $450 in restitution for damage to MTA property, according to Delgadillo's office.
Probation conditions also require Pena to stay away from graffiti-related tools including paint, markers and drill bits.
On March 23, a staff member from Councilman Ed Reyes' office executed a citizen's arrest after seeing Pena deface a white wall adjacent to MTA railroad tracks near Avenue 61, said Deputy City Attorney Regina Gardner.
Los Angeles police officers found more tagging on the rear wall of a Figueroa Street business and a wall on the southeast side of Piedmont Park with Pena's moniker, "CSK," Gardner said.
