Police looking for help in stopping graffiti

ELKO - Elko police are looking for any information on people or gangs responsible for graffiti at Angel Park Monday night.

Some graffiti was found on playground equipment, said Elko Police Chief Clair Morris.

"It looked relatively new," Morris said.

He said the graffiti looked as though it were gang-related.

"Historically we have some (vandalism) in the spring when it gets warm," Morris said.

Elko police Capt. Mike Smith said teens are not supposed to be able to purchase spray paint unless they are 18 or older.

"Parents need to be paying attention to what their kids are doing at night," Smith said. "Retail stores need to check IDs to make sure kids are of age to buy spray paint."

Parents also should look for paint under their children's fingernails.

"We would certainly like to catch them," Morris said.
