NEW ORLEANS -- The anti-graffiti campaign Operation Clean Sweep received hands-on help Thursday morning from city leaders.

Mayor Ray Nagin and police Superintendent Eddie Compass picked up paint brushes to paint over graffiti in the 400 block of Andrew Higgins Drive.

Operation Clean Sweep started as a one-man movement about six years ago.

Now, it is a nonprofit organization with about 100 volunteers.
