Last week, News 14 Carolina told you how one community in Cumberland County
was vandalized.
Well it has happened again, this time in Hope Mills.
Several business owners woke up Friday morning to find their buildings had been
spray painted.
The vandals left a big mess and business owners are furious.
The walls are clean now but you should have seen it earlier.
Business owner Michele Tilly spent their morning scrubbing spray paint left
behind by vandals.
"when I went to set my display in the front window I found the
bronze ‘X’ over the Livestrong Band. I came out looking a little closer and
found that they painted the window here with arrows using silver and bronze."
The spray painting happened sometime Wednesday night and it seems no business
was safe.
The brunt of the vandalism happened on Trade Street.
Tilly explained, "It was very upsetting you work hard to have a business and
someone thinks nothing of it and come and damage it."
About five businesses were hit in about a three mile area.
Everything from a church, a UPS drop box and even a antique tractor bare the
marks.
More than likely all these incidents are related. They all happened around the same time and they used the same two colors at every scene, a gold and silver spray paint.
Few businesses have cleaned up but some still have swastikas and KKK symbols left behind.
A store’s manager said, "The down side is the expense you go through getting back up and get it repainted and repaired from the damage that was done."
This isn't the first time vandalism hit Trade Street.
Tilly said in one year she recalls four different cases.
"Someone catch them if that's possible,” she said. “I guess it's a matter of
getting (them) at the right place at the right time."
