SIX teenage members of a alleged graffiti gang were last night in police custody
in Doncaster.
The group are allegedly responsible for defacing property across Doncaster,
Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Cleethorpes in North Lincolnshire and
Leicestershire.
They are also thought to be linked to various Internet chatrooms devoted to
graffiti.
Officers swooped on five separate addresses in Doncaster yesterday morning in
one of the largest operations of its kind involving the police, councils, and
Crimestoppers.
The six boys, including two brothers, were arrested on suspicion of criminal
damage. During the breakfast-time raids police also seized equipment including
computers which have been sent for forensic examination.
Yesterday's police operation, dubbed Axed 3, was mounted after members of the
public came forward with information.
Crimestoppers' Regional Co-ordinator DS Ian Froggett said: "A lot of callers to
Crimestoppers have uttered their disgust at what they see to be mindless and
unsightly and certainly not an artform."
