Graffiti attack on historic lighthouse
Published on 15/09/2005
DAMAGE: Graffiti on Hodbarrow Lighthouse have sprayed graffiti on an historic
monument in Haverigg.
The Hodbarrow Lighthouse is the latest building to be defaced.
The lighthouse is a symbol of the industrial heritage of the area and has been
refurbished in recent years.
The graffiti includes anti-police slogans as well as the word “Kareesh”.
A window at the top of the lighthouse has also been smashed.
The damage was reported to police by a member of the public at 9.45am on
Tuesday.
The vandalism is a big blow to children at Haverigg Primary School on Atkinson
Street, who adopted the lighthouse as the school’s symbol of excellence in 1996.
