The father of a man who was killed when a concrete slab was thrown off an overbridge into his car, says he hopes the offender is brought to justice.
Christopher Currie, 20, was driving along the southern motorway when the eight kilogram slab was thrown off the Princes Street overbridge, killing him instantly.
His three female passengers, which included his girlfriend, suffered minor injuries when the 1993 Honda Civic lost control and slammed into a lamp post.
Police are now treating his death as a homicide.
Christopher's father Wayne Currie says his son was an amazing and well balanced young man. He says even when the offender is caught, it won't bring his son back.
Currie says he hopes whoever threw the concrete slab is feeling very guilty.
The case was upgraded to a homicide after police heard eye witness evidence.
An eye witness saw a person stooped over carrying a concrete slab from a nearby construction site just before the incident.
The witness told police it appeared the person was struggling with the weight of the concrete. Police are confident that this is the person responsible for dropping the slab from the overbridge.
Police officers made appeals at South Auckland school
assemblies for information on Monday and tagging on the
overbridge will also be examined to see if a local street gang
could be involved.
