Bill would allow city crews to clean graffiti on private property

City Councilmember Ann Kobayashi intends to introduce a bill that will allow the
city to wipe out graffiti on private property when the paint is visible to the
public.
Bill 6 (2007) will work under the premise that graffiti is a public nuisance and
therefore the city will be able to remove it.
Present laws don't allow city crews to go on private property without the
owner's permission.
"My office receives many calls notifying us of graffiti locations, however,
because it is on private property it is difficult for the City to go there and
clean it up," Kobayashi said in a news release. "This law is similar to laws
passed in other municipalities and would give the private owner the option of
cleaning it up themselves or they would allow the City to go on their property
to clean it up."
