Arcata police overrun by graffiti complaints

During the month of December, the Arcata Police Department has responded to
reports of graffiti vandalism at nearly two dozen locations in the downtown area
as well as other parts of the city.
Between Dec. 3 and early Dec. 4 an unknown suspect or suspects used black spray
paint to write graffiti at seven locations: Solutions 1063 H Street, Greenhouse
Board Shop 1041 H Street, The Works 987 H Street, Northtown Books 957 H Street,
Prudential Redwood Realty 941 H Street, Feuerwerker Building 854 9th Street and
Jogg'n Shoppe 1090 G Street.
More graffiti appeared between Dec. 6 and early Dec. 7. During this series of
crimes, the suspect or suspects used black spray paint, green spray paint and a
black marker pen to vandalize 10 locations: Auto Body Express 497 I Street,
Ken's Auto Parts 480 G Street, Private residence in the 500 block of G Street
(On fence), Arcata Exchange 813 H Street (On side of delivery truck), Arcata
Bike Library 8th Street, Opie's Body Shop 828 I Street, Seely and Titlow
Building 990 I Street, The Works 987 H Street, Umpqua Bank 1063 G Street and
Wells Fargo Bank 1103 G Street.
More graffiti appeared on Dec. 18 in the area of Foster Road and Western Avenue
as well as a fence in the 500 block of 14th Street. On Dec. 25, graffiti was
reported in the Janes Creek Meadows subdivision. Many signs, curbs and fences
were tagged. Finally, on Dec. 27, graffiti was reported in the 800 block of 9th
Street.
The Arcata Police Department is offering a reward of $500 to anyone who provides
information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons
responsible.
This reward money was donated by concerned citizens who are fed up with graffiti
to public and private property. Citizens who would like to continue this reward
program can send their donations to the Arcata Police Department Graffiti Trust
Fund.
