Graffiti Removal Program Offers Inmates Opportunity To Give Back

More than 50 men picked up trash and removed graffiti at Denver’s Rude Park near Federal Boulevard and Colfax Avenue on Saturday.

The project is an effort to give those who were formerly behind bars an opportunity to give back to the community.

Robert Moore got out of jail just three weeks ago.

He said, It was a great opportunity for me, and I thought it would be worthwhile for me to do something for the community because the community has done a lot of me.”

Durwin Lindsey also took part in the clean-up day. He says he spent ten years behind bars.

Durwin said, “Not only am I trying to show the community I have changed, but I am also trying to show my family that I have become a better person.”

Several agencies worked together on the re-entry and community clean-up project.

The collaborative effort not only beautifies area parks, it assists the offenders in reconciling with the community.
