Graffiti blow
October 26, 2006 12:00am
AT last someone is taking seriously the activities of vandals who deface our
city by ego-tripping with paint cans.
Police have arrested a man they allege is a notorious graffiti vandal whose
activities, they claim, have caused $100,000 of damage. The man faces 74
charges.
A court must decide his guilt or innocence but the community will applaud the
fact that the police have put so much effort into his identification and arrest.
Detectives from the transit safety division have had the man under surveillance
for three months.
This was no plodding pursuit, but a hi-tech investigation in which a police team
used a graffiti data base and an intelligence analyst who specialises in
graffiti tag identification.
Steve Beardon of Residents Against Graffiti Everywhere said: "I think that's the
tip of the iceberg and well done by police."
Let's have more of it.
