Concerned citizens and volunteers will join forces with the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference to fight gangs and graffiti Saturday, November 18, 2006.
They plan to grab brushes and buckets of paint and cover up graffiti all over
Shelby County.
"We are urging the community to let the thugs know that we're sick of them and
we're going to take our neighborhoods back," said Memphis SCLC President Dr.
Dwight Montgomery.
The SCLC, created during the civil rights movement by Dr. Martin Luther King
Jr., has a modern mission to improve life in urban communities. The SCLC
operates a gang rescue hotline to help gang members escape to a better life.
Anyone interested in helping with the anti-gang efforts should contact the SCLC
of Memphis at 753-2057.
